On Trend: Sweet Lariat

One of my favorite new trends in accessories is the lariat necklace. Delicate and sophisticated, this versatile style makes a great layering piece or an adored staple.  Dress it down with a tee and denim cut offs or fancy it up for a summer wedding.  Here are a few of my faves…

1. Triple Mix Chain Lariat Necklace
2. Elevate Y Necklace
3. Purple Rain Necklace
4. Teardrop Lariat Necklace
5. Pamola Lariat Necklace

How would you wear the lariat?

On Trend: Summer Staples

7.1.14

Sometimes my closet overwhelms me.

It’s organized by color, style, and season with shoes in boxes and pictures of each displayed neatly on the outside.  I have my accessories accessibly hanging cleanly and my sweaters folded like a department store on the shelves (for my favorite closet organizing tips visit here). And still, I stare at a closet full of clothes and get that feeling that I have nothing to wear.

Wear of the Week: White Pants and a Chunky Sweater

ImageI did it.

It was early October and overcast and was just begging to be worn: I busted out the chunky knit for the first time this season.Image

One of my most favorite things to wear, an oversized chunky sweater is classic and comforting with a hint of boho-chic.  It keeps you warm on a crisp day, is a great cover-up when you have had one too many holiday treats, and still looks effortlessly stylish.

Image

When my mom and I saw this sweater at a quaint boutique last fall, we knew it was a must-have.  The bold colors make it a perfect match with dark denim, brown cords, and (obviously) white denim.  To add a bit of benevolence to our purchase, I bought my mom’s and she bought mine- charitable shopping at its finest.

Wear of the Week: White Pants and Floral

Image

During my travels, I love to bring home a trinket or two to remind me of my time there and the memories I created.  While most travel back with a coffee mug or a t-shirt that reflect the destination’s heritage, I, more often than not, travel back with clothes.

This is especially the case when I travel out of country.  Trends start sooner in other countries, especially in Europe, and I feel like I get to bring back a part of the future when I purchase clothes there.

Image

On a trip to Madrid three years ago, I picked up this floral blouse and I have worn it every fall season since.  It is wrinkle-free so it travels really well and it looks great with both denim and leggings.

Image

This is a great pairing to the white denim as it brings in fall colors to balance out the white bottoms.  I cinched it with a skinny belt to accentuate the waist since the tunic is more of a blousey fit.

Wear of the Week: Boom + Pencil Skirt

Image

Just as superheroes morph from everyday citizen to strength yielding lifesavers, the Boom sweatshirt can morph from comfy running-errand-casual to sophisticated yet flirty work attire.

Paired with a sleek pencil skirt adds an element of elegance and contrasts the quirkiness of the sweatshirt.

Add a high bun, heels, and a sparkle clutch and this superhero starts to take on a persona of its own!

Wear of the Week: Red Denim + Parrot Printed Blouse

Image“She was not quite what you would call refined. She was not quite what you would call unrefined. She was the kind of person that keeps a parrot.”  -Mark Twain

My father was a commercial fisherman back in the day.  He would go on excursions that could last months at a time.  On one of these long deployments, my mom and her sister thought it would be a good idea to invest in a parakeet to keep my mother company when he was away.  I wish I was old enough to have seen the look on my dad’s face when he came home from his fishing trip and saw heard a squawking bird in the corner of the living room.  Needless to say, it was not long thereafter he quit the fishing business.

Nowadays, although I don’t actually have a parrot as a pet, I do love a parrot-printed blouse.ImageWhen sporting colored denim, it automatically adds an element of fun to an outfit. Why not continue that momentum with your upper half?  I am a sucker for blouses, especially when an unexpected print is involved.  When I found this number in NY last fall, I knew it was going to be a great addition to my closet.  I especially loved the studded detail on the color (which will look great under a sweater or jacket come cooler weather).ImagePaired with a sparkle clutch and my new favorite fringe booties (I apologize in advance as I know these will be making many appearances on here this season), this outfit is begging to be taken out for a night on the town!Image

Wear of the Week: Rockstar Red Denim

ImageWhen attending a concert, I love to touch base with my inner rockstar.  It feels like playing dress up as I don’t channel the edgy side of me all too often.  Red denim is a a versatile bottom that allows me to do just that.ImageImageI will be attending the One Republic concert next week and plan on wearing this ensemble.  Paired with a cheetah printed tank and some fringe booties, I will fit right in with the One Republic groupies.  Plus, a crossbody bag is a must so I can have my hands free for a camera in one hand and a beer in another!
